Announcements for the week of October 15, 2017
Are You Visiting With Us Today?
Welcome and thank you for being a part of our Body of Believers this morning! Please take a moment to complete a visitor card, located in the pew rack in front of you, so we can have a record of your visit with us. Give the card to one of the Elders at the auditorium doors after the service or drop it in an offering box in the foyer. If you have an immediate spiritual or practical need and would like to speak with someone before you leave, please see one of our Elders.
Children’s Ministries Available During the Service:
We offer a nursery for children through 4 years old during Sunday morning services. The 3 & 4 year-olds join the congregation for singing and prayer, after which they are quietly dismissed. Children ages 5 and older stay in the service with their families on the 1st and 2nd Sundays of each month. We make activity sheets, blank pieces of paper, and crayons available for them to use during the service on the table in the back. Please return crayons to the basket on the table after the service. On the 3rd and 4th Sundays of the month, there is a kids’ worship service, Kids On Mission, that focuses on Jesus and His mission. Parents, please keep your cell phones on vibrate.
Pet in Need of New Home
When Rosa Hooper passed away, she left behind a six year old domestic short hair cat. For the time being, it is being cared for by Mary Lucas, but we would love to transfer it to a permanent and loving home. If you can assist in any way please contact the church office.
Riverwood’s Operation Christmas Child
We will be collecting items for Operation Christmas Child shoe boxes from October 22nd until November 8th. Boxes and full details will be available then.
The benevolence ministry exists to give financial assistance to members of the Riverwood Body as needs arise. Please prayerfully consider giving to this important ministry by noting “Benevolence” on your check.
Hurricane Harvey Relief Service Project
We have the great opportunity of serving a school community in Cleveland, Texas that has been left without food supplies in the local food bank due to Hurricane Harvey. We will be collecting donations of non-perishable food items to benefit the students at Tarkington Middle School. Please see below for more information on the needs of the community (we are partnering with a teacher at TMS).
From Amy Boie (Reading Teacher at TMS)
“Each year the Houston Food Bank supplies our district with food backpacks that we send home with at risk students. These students rely on these donations each week in order to have food to eat on the weekends. After Hurricane Harvey, the Houston Food Bank contacted our district and told us that they would have to suspend donations for several months. Teachers have been purchasing can goods and non-perishables to send home with the students. We could really use more help with supplying our kiddos with the much needed food donations.”
There are donation boxes located in the church foyer, and we will be collecting food items until Wednesday, November 1st.
2017 Fall Bible Conference
“How to Develop and Sustain a
Meaningful and Effective Prayer Life”
D.L. Moody said, “I had rather teach one person to pray than ten men to preach.” This conference will not only encourage one to pray, but will introduce one to a clear explanation of the Spiritual dynamics that lead one to develop and sustain a meaningful prayer life. Knowing the importance of prayer may only discourage us. Therefore, the goal of this conference is to give us hope and direction so that we can move forward into a place of victorious prayer.
Special Guest Speaker:
Dr. Bill Thrasher (Moody Bible Institute)
Dr. Thrasher, BS, Auburn University, ThM, Dallas Theological Seminary, and ThD, Dallas Theological Seminary, is the Professor of Spiritual Formation at Moody Seminary in Chicago, IL. He has served as a pastor, a teaching assistant at Dallas Theological Seminary, and a professor at the Moody Bible Institute. Along with his current teaching duties, Dr. Thrasher serves in pastoral ministry and is a frequent retreat and conference speaker.
