Courageous Discipleship (Part 3) – “The Courage to Serve a Better Master”

“No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.

Matthew 6:23

As we have observed, discipleship is rooted in the relationship between teacher/master and the pupil/servant. The reality is that all people are in some way servants. We serve our employers, families, political/social causes, and even sports teams. This service gives our lives direction and helps us to prioritize our decisions. When we consider the things to which we give our lives in service, we will notice that both our affections and actions are involved. If we are to be Jesus’ disciples we must hear His Word to us and examine ourselves. The choices that we make and the things that we love are important indicators of whether or not this is truly who we are. This week are going to consider together Matt. 6:19-24, asking: (1) Where is our treasure? (2) Do we have eyes to see? and (3) Whom do we serve?

Join us this Sunday as we commune together at His table and continue to allow Him to speak to us about discipleship from Matthew’s gospel.

Soli Deo Gloria.
